How it works

Three steps. No account, no part numbers.

Say it like you’d say it

Half inch 5-flute, roughing 4140 pre-hard on a Haas, flood coolant. No part numbers, no dropdowns.

It reads the job and searches our shelf

The AI pulls out diameter, flute count, material and operation, then scores every one of the 292 NSHP end mills we stock against them.

You get picks you can act on

Each pick shows a match rating, why it fits, starting RPM and IPM, max depth of cut and price. Request a quote in one click, or send it to the calculator.

Dial it in: speeds, feeds and ball nose correction

Choose Calc Speeds & Feeds on any pick and the calculator fills itself in, or enter an NSHP part number directly. Built on NSHP application data for 11 materials, with your machine’s RPM and feed limits applied.

Cutting Parameter Calculators
Validated application data
How ball nose parameters work
ADOC < 50% of diameter: Tool only cuts on part of its radius. Calculate effective cutting diameter (De) and use it for RPM and chip load — do not use actual D.
ADOC ≥ 50% of diameter: Use standard slotting speeds & feeds with actual D. Apply long-reach projection correction if gauge length exceeds 2.5×D.
De = 2×√(R²−(R−ADOC)²)  ·  IPTadj = (D×IPTslot)/De  ·  RPM = (SFM×3.82)/De  ·  h = ae²/(8R)

Not a chatbot. A tool picker built on our catalog.

Generic AI will happily invent a part number. This one only answers from tools we hold, with numbers from our own application data, and a specialist behind it.

Only what we stock

Every answer is an NSHP end mill on our shelf in Ipswich, MA. Not a guess from the internet, and not a part you’ll wait weeks for.

Real starting numbers

RPM, IPM and depth of cut come from NSHP application data, not a generic chart.

A person behind every answer

Quote requests go straight to our application specialists. If a pick isn’t right for your setup, we’ll say so and help you prove out the right one.

Questions

What does the NSIT AI Tool Finder recommend?

NSHP solid carbide end mills, NSIT's own private-label line. It searches 292 stocked SKUs from 1/8" to 1" diameter, 3 to 8 flutes, in square end, ball nose and corner radius profiles.

How should I describe my job?

Say it the way you would at the machine: material, operation and diameter, plus flute count if you know it. Machine and coolant help. For example: "3/8 4-flute finishing 316 stainless, flood coolant." No part numbers or dropdowns needed.

Are the speeds and feeds ready to run?

They are starting points from NSHP application data. Verify them in the cut, and enter your machine's RPM and feed limits in the Speed & Feed Calculator. For a critical job, call 978-356-2500 and an NSIT application specialist will set it up with you.

What does it cost?

Nothing. The AI Tool Finder, Speed & Feed Calculator and Ball Nose Adjuster are free to use, with no account or login.

Does it cover inserts or other brands?

The AI Tool Finder covers NSHP end mills. For Tungaloy NTK tooling, use Gabby, Tungaloy NTK's AI selector, and quote the result with NSIT. For anything else, send the job to NSIT through the contact form or call 978-356-2500.

Can I order what it recommends?

Yes. Every pick has a Request Quote button that goes straight to NSIT's team in Ipswich, Massachusetts, and every recommended tool is a stocked NSHP SKU.
